Snobthrift Census: What to do with the Savings?

Snobthrift Debacle: Finding Fresh Produce on the Cheap

Snobthrift Catalyst: A Transcript of a Convo Between Me and Worksnob

Snobthrift: "Ugh, I am on such a tight budget now I actually had to buy Safeway Select products at the store last night."

Worksnob: "You dork, Safeway Select products are good."

Snobthrift: "You don't understand. Organic produce is my birthright."

Worksnob: "Go back to your commune, hippie. Or at least back to Evergreen College!'

Stung but undeterred by this spirited repartee, the Eugene-born SnobThrift resolved to find an alternative to the iceberg lettuce and soul-sucking flourescent lights of Safeway. But where? Naturally the California Ave Farmer's Market came to mind, but Snobthrift shudders at the thought of crowds. I knew I could always water-taxi it to Pike Place, but every Seattlite knows that place is more conducive to pick-pocketing than penny-pinching. What's a SnobThrift to do?

Answer: The High Point Pea Patch, A Farmer's Market for Two!

Why is this woman so happy? She just saved a bundle by shopping at the High Point Pea Patch.

A little patch of yuppie paradise, the High Point Pea Patch is a hidden hotspot for buying local produce like carrots, beets, and yes, lettuce-or simply letting your hair down to frolic in manner of Beatrix Potter book.

Arugula anyone?

Five dollars for a huge bunch of flowers, three heads of lettuce, carrots and arugula? Yes please!

Oct. 13-15: First Weekend Mission-Find a Fancy, Free Fall Outing

It was my first weekend of frugal-yet-fun living, and the Snobthrift was itching to take advantage of the gorgeous crisp weather and do something "fall." The snob in me wanted something a little more upscale than your average pumpkin patch romp, but the thrift in me warned that spendy ventures were out of the question. A quick convo with my accomplice Snobmom confirmed that a hearty walk was in order, and off we went to find the perfect affordable, upscale fall activity. It only took us a few blocks to be, as SnobMom nerdily put it "blown away." The Art Glass Pumpkin Patch at Avalon Glassworks, (on now through October 31st) was the perfect fancy fall fix. See some highlights below.

Salutations From the Seattle Snobthrift

Saludos blogosphere, and please, pull up a seat! In this inaugural post of the Seattle Snobthrift, I will explain the purpose of this blog, which is to serve as a transcript of my journey as I attempt to save $10,000 of my humble copywriter's salary in one year (for a purpose to be disclosed later in this blog), without sacrificing my preferred snobby lifestyle.
Using the accessible culture and shining natural beauty of the Emerald City as my currency, I am off to prove that penny pinching and posh living can co-exist when you live somewhere as cool as Seattle-and I'd like all of you to come along!
Presently I have $21.07 in my savings account, approx $9978.93 short of my goal, and approx $350 short of the strict Snobthrift Savings Plan put together for me by Accomplice/Auditor Blond Snob, who will hunt me if I don't come up with the money by the end of the month. Clearly, it is time to get Snobthrifty! Let's go!
